Helping Your Child Thrive at School with NDIS Therapy Support

Starting school, or even a new school year, can feel big, especially for children who need a little extra support to feel comfortable, included and ready to learn.
At Kinetic Kids WA, we don’t think of school and therapy as separate worlds. School is where children learn, play and build friendships. That’s why our therapy team works alongside families and educators to support children in the moments that matter most. In their classroom, on the playground and throughout their daily routines.
Our approach is guided by the National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention, which reminds us that children do best when support happens in their everyday environments, with the people who are with them every day.
Supporting Children Throughout Their School Day to Thrive
Rather than only seeing children in a clinic room, our therapists spend time understanding how a child manages in their actual school day. We might:
Visit the classroom or playground
Look at where a child sits and how they access their work
Suggest small changes to seating, positioning or the environment
Help teachers set up supports that make learning easier and more comfortable
Contribute to the Individual Education Plan documents
These are often simple changes that make a big difference in helping your child to thrive at school.
Working Together with Teachers and Education Assistants
Your child’s teacher and education assistants are incredibly important people in their day. We see them as partners. We share ideas and strategies with school staff so they feel confident to:
Support your child’s learning
Adjust activities when needed
Use visuals, communication tools or movement breaks
Help your child join in with the class in ways that work for them
Our goal is for teachers to feel comfortable using these strategies every day, especially when we’re not there. When educators and support staff are empowered, your child will thrive at school.
Helping Children Communicate and Join In
Every child communicates differently. Some use words, some use AAC devices, some use gestures, signs or facial expressions. We help schools understand:
How your child communicates
How to give them time to respond
How to adapt tasks so they can take part
How to make sure your child can express choices, needs and feelings during the day
Because being part of the class isn’t just about doing the work, it’s about being heard and understood.
Support Plans That Help Schools Support Your Child
To make things clear and consistent for school staff, we often provide schools with the following support plans:
All About Me - A simple, friendly summary that outlines how a child communicates, what helps them to learn, what might overwhelm them, their likes and dislikes.
Mealtime Management Plans – how your child eats safely and comfortably at school
Transfer and Mobility Plans – how to support your child moving between places
24-hour positioning – How to support positioning for participation or rest throughout the school day.
Hydrotherapy Programs – how pool goals can carry over into the school day
Creating Consistency Across Your Child’s Day
We help link what happens at home, in therapy and at school so children experience the same supports across all environments. When things feel familiar and predictable, it’s much easier for children to feel settled, confident and ready to
learn and join in.
Our Goal
Our goal is not just for children to attend school. Our goal is for them to feel:
Included
Understood
Comfortable
Confident
Able to participate in their own way
